The Gastonia Police Departments Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) played a key role in helping the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force capture a wanted felon connected to a recent shooting. On October 14, the RTCC quickly went to work after receiving a vehicle description. Using Flock technology and city camera systems, RTCC staff located the suspects vehicle within minutes. Thanks to the rapid coordination between the RTCC, GPD officers, and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, a felony stop was conducted, and the suspect was taken into custody without incident. He is being held in the Gaston County jail on a $3,000,000.00 bond.
On Thursday October 9th at approximately 1225hrs, the RTCC received a Flock hit for a stolen vehicle traveling on Union Rd towards Gaston Day School Rd. The RTCC gave out an LPR BOLO to any unit in the area with the description, tag and direction of travel. A Captain advised he was in the area and would be watching for it. One of our officers then advised he saw the vehicle coming up to Union and Neal Hawkins. The Officer then initiated a felony stop on the vehicle when it turned into Davis Crossing Apartments. There were 3 occupants in the vehicle, the driver was given a citation for drugs and the suspect who had the open warrant for the theft was arrested and given a $25,000 bond.
Gastonia PD responded to a call for service involving a hit-and-run collision, in which a vehicle struck a subject operating a moped and then fled the scene. Upon arrival, we initiated a review of available surveillance resources. We first checked the License Plate Reader (LPR) camera located shortly before the accident scene and identified a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle. Subsequently, we reviewed footage from the video camera, which was positioned just beyond the accident location. The suspect vehicle is visible in this footage, and it is noted that the passenger-side mirror was missingconsistent with the damage likely sustained during the collision. Using the information obtained from the LPR, a follow-up investigation was conducted. The suspect vehicle was located and contact was made with the registered owner. During an interview, the vehicle owner admitted to being involved in the accident.
Gastonia PD was dispatched to a Felony Property Damage. An officer took a report for property damage and the incident was captured on our camera system. After reviewing the cameras, we were able to identify a vehicle that dropped the suspect off, then picked him up a short time later. Utilizing the LPR nearby, the suspect vehicle was positively identified. This developed into a suspect being identified and ultimately arrested. During his arrest, he confessed to the damage.
During another incident, suspects were seen in the following video stealing bathtubs, showers, and tub surrounds from the Brookline Home construction site at Ruby Dixon crossing in early July. The thefts were captured on security cameras put up by Brookline. That footage was turned over to Gastonia PD, who took the footage and located the vehicles with the stolen materials using Flock technology. Two people have been arrested and charged with Felony Larceny stemming from the incidents. (
