Cedar Lake IN PD utilizes retroactive search to solve crimes after they've occurred. Additionally, Cedar Lake IN PD utilizes real time alerting of hotlist vehicles to capture wanted criminals. Recent Success Stories
On December 26, 2023, Officers were dispatched to a hit-and-run crash with injuries. The victim, a resident of Cedar Lake, was struck by a gold SUV, which fled the scene. The victim sustained injuries, and their vehicle sustained severe damage. The resident was able to take a photo of the offending vehicle. A license plate was not recognizable; however, there was a distinctive marking on the rear of the vehicle. Damaged parts left at the scene were traced to a Ford Escape. Using Flock Safety, a search was performed for a Ford SUV near the time of the accident. A vehicle was positively identified with the same distinctive marking provided by the victim. Investigators followed up with the Offender, who resides in a nearby community, located the fleeing vehicle, and positively identified the suspect. On February 7, 2024, Officers were dispatched to a hit-and-run crash. The victim described the vehicle as a silver truck with a "for sale" sign. Using nearby security cameras, Officers determined that the offending vehicle was a Silver Toyota Tundra. Using Flock Safety, a search was performed for a Silver Toyota Tundra near the time of the accident. A vehicle was positively identified. Officers followed up, locating the vehicle, and positively identified the suspect.
